THE PRIORITY START 20" LETS KIDS EXPLORE THE WORLD WITH CONFIDENCE AND STYLE

Our Start Series was inspired by our very own kids! We designed a collection of bicycles with sizes and features that cater to little ones as they grow and gain confidence. The Start 20" is ideal for riders (6–11 years old) graduating from a 16-inch bicycle. Choose the 3 speed for kids pedaling longer distances across varied terrain who need more gears to get there, or the 1 speed with training wheels for kids who are ready for a bigger bike but still want a little extra support. Like all our bicycles, it is rooted in our low maintenance, high quality promise built around our rust/grease-free Gates belt drive.

About The Start 20"

START 20" FEATURES

The 20-inch bicycle is an important one. It gives a budding cyclist more control over how and where they ride. You don’t want a cheap toy bicycle that’s a hassle to put together and maintain, and can’t stand up to the demands that a young rider puts on it. Let’s be honest: kids aren’t known for taking care of their stuff, at least not our kids! So the Priority Start 20" has adult-grade features that are scaled down to accommodate little riders with big cycling dreams. As always, the grease/rust-free Gates belt drive is at the core, with features that help kids embrace their love of being on a bicycle, coupled with the quality needed to pass it down to siblings or friends.

RUST/GREASE-FREE BELT DRIVE

Chains are the # 1 issue on bicycles. They get dirty, fall off, and they're at a perfect height for kids to grab and then get grease everywhere. Our rust-free and grease-free Gates Belt is cleaner, smoother, and doesn’t require maintenance. Also, it won’t snap off or break under the weight of a rider.

02

3-Speed Rear Hub (3 Speed Model)

This is the same industry-leading Shimano hub that's featured on our adult models. The 3-speed internally geared hub carries the same range as a 7-speed cassette, in a cleaner, more efficient, ultra low-maintenance package.

03

Kid-Friendly Dual Handbrakes

Dual handbrake levers connected to smooth stopping v-brakes allow for a comfortable, confident ride. The levers are placed at a kid-friendly reach for their smaller hands.

04

Durability & Rust-Fighting

Kids bikes get left on lawns with sprinklers, tossed in the back of cars, dropped, and any number of other things that happen with our little ones. The lightweight aluminum frame won’t rust, neither will the alloy wheels and stainless steel spokes. It’s a quality bike built to last long enough for sharing with siblings and friends.

05

Puncture-Resistant Tires

It’s an awesome feeling when your kids are ready to ride with—and without— you. But road debris and sharp stones on bike paths can be a real bummer. Our puncture-resistant tires help protect against unwanted flats.

06

Kid-Specific Geometry

Learning to ride a bike can be intimidating for some kids. We aimed to make our fit comfortable and approachable for young, growing riders so they would be excited to hop on and embrace the adventure!

07

Training Wheels, Your Way

Every rider learns at their own pace. If your kiddo is ready for a bigger bike but not quite ready to balance on their own, choose the 1 speed with training wheels. One gear keeps things simple, so they can focus on pedaling, steering and braking with extra stability. When they’re ready to ride solo, the training wheels come off. Training wheels are available on the 1 speed only; the 3 speed can’t take them.

PROPER SIZING

We recommend sizing based on your leg inseam. The quickest way to properly determine your inseam, is to measure from the top of your crotch to the ground with your shoes off. Please watch the below video and contact us any time with questions!

Recommended Inseam: 20.5"-25"

MORE GEARS ≠ MORE SPEED

Parents often ask us, “Aren’t more gears better”? It might look that way on the surface, but our 3-speed systems are on par with most other 6 & 7-speed chain-and-derailleur setups. With internally geared hubs, you achieve a similar gear range, but with the additional benefit of increased simplicity, less maintenance, and quality that you’d find on an adult bicycle.

FAQS

You have questions. We have answers.

What size is best for my child?

Inseam is best. Start there. While bicycles target age and height, inseam will be the best determining factor for which bicycle is best for your child. As their riding confidence increases, so will their ability to ride bigger bicycles. They will move from a more flat-footed stopping position to their tiptoes, ultimately being able to slide forward off their seat at stopped positions.

How many speeds does the bicycle have?

The Start 20" comes two ways. The 3 speed has the same Shimano 3-speed hub we use on our adult recreational bicycles, offering a nice gear range with simple, intuitive usage for climbing hills (gear 1), flat cruising (gear 2), and gaining speed (gear 3). The 1 speed comes with training wheels for riders who are still building confidence.

Can I get the 3-speed with training wheels?

No. Training wheels are only available on the 1 speed Start 20". The 3 speed isn’t compatible with training wheels, and they can’t be added to it later. If your rider still needs training wheels, choose “1 speed – with training wheels.” If they’re already riding confidently on two wheels, the 3 speed is the way to go.

Can I remove the training wheels later?

Yes! When your rider is ready, the training wheels come off. Keep in mind your Start 20" stays a single-speed bike once they’re off.

Can I add training wheels later?

Only on the 1 speed, which already comes with them. The 3 speed can’t take training wheels, so if you think your rider will need them, choose “1 speed – with training wheels.”
