THE DUAL MEANING OF
When we launched Priority Bicycles, our goal was to design and build our bicycles here. Design we knew we had our concepts and customers squarely in mind. Building, however, was a challenge. We found roadblocks identifying partners with the right expertise, as well as ways to manage process and cost.
A few years ago, we began talking to our friends at Gates about making a custom-colored Carbon Drive belt for our bicycles out of their Kentucky, USA facility. The belt, where, and how it was made inspired us and got us thinking, why not hand build a new bicycle model ourselves.
We got to work, building out design resources in NY and production resources in our logistics center in Montgomery, PA. We constructed a commercial-grade paint booth and assembly station, and began testing, failing, and testing again on scrap bicycle frames until we perfected the process. The result of the effort is the appropriately-named bicycle, "THE PROOF" The name is a twist on the creative inspiration coming from the custom honey-oak colored translucent Gates Belt Drive made in the heart of Bourbon Country in Kentucky, and the validation punctuating the rollout of our first hand-built bicycle model from our Montgomery, PA facility.
We Are Royale in Los Angeles drew inspiration from practical design elements such as functional printing methods from the early 1900's, labels and packaging from American spirits, and the practical materials used in distilleries and shipping companies.
The result is a hand-edged feel across all of the design. The head badge is a unique take on the Priority "P" and then stretched into a full "Priority" on The Proof. A builder's certification is placed on the seat tube- each individually signed by each assembler. On the downtube, a Priority Bicycles stamp shares the location of the Priority facility in Montgomery, PA.
