THE PERFECT BICYCLE SO YOUR LITTLE ONE CAN START ROLLING WITH CONFIDENCE AND STYLE.
The Priority Start 16" is the premier low maintenance, belt drive bicycle for 3-7 year olds who are ready for their first "big kid" two-wheeler. Featuring a lightweight aluminum frame with freewheel construction, the single-speed Start 16" was developed to fill a gap in the market for children who start on a balance bike but find it difficult to ride with coaster/foot brakes since their instinct is to move their legs forward and backward while riding. You can have confidence this bicycle will last, be comfortable for your child, and keep their hands and clothing free of chain grease and grime. A composite belt guard, kickstand, and full reflector kit come standard on every bicycle.

ASSEMBLING THE START 16"
When looking for a bicycle for your little one, what do you want? You certainly don’t want a toy that’s a pain to put together, is made with cheap components, and could fall apart. Talk about discouraging and a waste of money—and ultimately your kiddo won’t enjoy their newfound freedom on two wheels. We designed our kids bikes to increase confidence throughout the learning process, to be comfortable and fun, and easy for parents to assemble and maintain. Kid-friendly proportions for growing riders, dual hand brakes, rust-fighting components, and our grease/rust-free belt drive instead of a dirty chain yield an awesome riding experience.

Chains are the # 1 issue on bicycles. They get dirty, fall off, and they're at a perfect height for kids to grab and then get grease everywhere. Our rust-free and grease-free Gates Belt is cleaner, smoother, and doesn’t require maintenance. Also, it won’t snap off or break under the weight of a rider.
The freewheel rear hub allows kids to learn and embrace pedaling without a coaster brake that can halt their development. A coaster, or pedal-back brake, can be challenging as early riders are gaining leg strength and coordination. The freewheel rear hub let’s them feel the pedal power going forward, and if they push back, they won’t have a jarring stop.
Dual handbrake levers connected to smooth stopping v-brakes allow for a comfortable, confident ride. The levers are placed at a kid-friendly reach for their smaller hands.
Kids bikes get left on lawns with sprinklers, tossed in the back of cars, dropped, and any number of other things that happen with our little ones. The lightweight aluminum frame won’t rust, neither will the alloy wheels and stainless steel spokes. It’s a quality bike built to last long enough for sharing with siblings and friends.
It’s an awesome feeling when your kids are ready to ride with—and without— you. But road debris and sharp stones on bike paths can be a real bummer. Our puncture-resistant tires help protect against unwanted flats.
Learning to ride a bike can be intimidating for some kids. We aimed to make our fit comfortable and approachable for young, growing riders so they would be excited to hop on and embrace the adventure!

OK, you’ve got the bike. Awesome! Now, how do you get your little one excited to ride?! Here are some tips and tricks for transitioning from a balance bike to pedal bike and removing the training wheels for good.

Start 16 Recommended Inseam: 18.5"-24"
We recommend sizing based on your leg inseam. To properly determine your inseam, measure from the top of your crotch to the ground with your shoes off. Please watch the below video and contact us any time with questions!
You have questions. We have answers.
What size is best for my child?
Inseam is best. Start there. While bicycles target age and height, inseam will be the best determining factor for which bicycle is best for your child. As their riding confidence increases, so will their ability to ride bigger bicycles. They will move from a more flat-footed stopping position to their tiptoes, ultimately being able to slide forward off their seat at stopped positions.
How many speeds does the bicycle have?
Our Start 16" is a single-speed which works well for little legs and early riders. Our Start 20" and 24" models feature a Shimano 3-speed hub—the same hub we use on our adult recreational bicycles—offering a nice gear range with simple intuitive usage for climbing hills (gear 1), flat cruising (gear 2), and gaining speed (gear 3).
Can the Start 16" accommodate training wheels?
Sure thing! Training wheels can be added to the Start 16" (they don't come with the bicycle though). Typically for age-based sizing, riders on our Start 20" and Start 24" models are already cruising with confidence, so those bicycles don’t support training wheels.
